Last day to get your entries in for the seventh WOS photo competition – competition closes at midnight on August 31st
Once again WOS will be running a photo competition in 2026. This will be the seventh year of the competition and we expect a total of around 100 entries. If past years are anything to go by, shortlisting will be very challenging!
WOS Photo Competition 2025 – winners and report
The sixth year of the WOS photo competition produced an excellent 172 entries: a record 142 in the Main section, but sadly only 15 each in the Mobile Phone and Young Photographers categories. Encouragingly, almost a third again came from female photographers.
84 different species were photographed and the most popular were photos of Puffin (9) and Red Kite (8). Unsurprisingly, there were no Waxwing pictures this year! 8 species appeared for the first time: Crossbill; Dartford Warbler; Sedge Warbler; Black Redstart; Hoopoe; Eider; Feral Pigeon and Hawaiian Goose.

WOS runs an annual bird photograph competition, which is open to members and non-members alike. For 2025 there are three categories: a Main section, open to all, a Mobile phone section, also open to all, and a Young Photographers section, open to photographers who are 21 years or younger on the closing date. The 2023 photo competition is now open for entries and we’ve already had our first entries. This year we’ve kept the same categories as in 2022: Main (Open), Flocks (Open) and Young Photographer.
