If we are to ensure that our knowledge of birds in Wales stays up to date it is really important that you record your sightings – whether it be a single common bird, a scarce or rare individual, a count of your local patch or an area you’re visiting. Through citizen science we can make sure that we have data to spot trends and changes in numbers and distribution and identify issues for conservation action.

The two best ways to record your sightings are through BirdTrack or by submitting them to your Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC).

Both BirdTrack and the LERCs have mobile apps that enable you to record on the go: follow the links below for more details.

A third way to submit your sightings is to send them directly to the appropriate County Recorder – details can be found on the Counties & Map pages. However, all County Recorders have access to BirdTrack and LERC records, so it’s best that you use these contacts if you have additional details you want to share, or you don’t have access to the first two methods.
