We’ve produced a cracking WOS calendar for 2027, displaying all the prize winning and Highly Commended pictures from the 2026 photo competition. The featured image is the picture for November 2027 – this was a Highly Commended photo from the Birds & People category. There’s a great story attached to this picture: this was a rescued Tawny Owl as a very young chick, which was raised by a friend of Dave Parry, who works as a vet and successfully released to the wild when full grown and able to feed and fly independently. His name was Otto to start with but they think he/she may be an Ollie!

None of the other winning photos has quite such an interesting back story, but there’s a selection of superb prize winning pictures in the calendar, and a small number of copies of the calendar are still available for online ordering – orders should be placed through web@birdsin.wales and each copy will cost £12.50, which includes £2.50 for p&p.

There’ll be a full report on the 2026 photo competition after Conference and in the winter Newsletter.
