The highlights were two second records for Wales: an ELEGANT TERN was in residence at Cemlyn for almost the whole month, trying to attract the attentions of the Sandwich Terns, before relocating to Formby in Lancashire as the other terns departed. A Cattle Egret was at Cors Ddyga (Anglesey) on 1st. Wood Sandpipers were at Cors Ddyga on 8th and Goldcliffe (Gwent) on 20-30th, recorded as noc-mig over Penrhyn Bay (Caernarfonshire) on 23rd and at Llanilid Opencast Workings (Glamorgan) on 26th, Teifi Marshes (Pembrokeshire) on 28th, NWC (Carmarthen) on 29-30th and Tregaron Bog (Ceredigion) on 30th.
A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was at Connah’s Quay (Flintshire) but this was not publicised. It relocated over the border to Burton Mere Wetlands (Wirral).
A Roseate Tern was at Cemlyn on 2-7th and a Balearic Shearwater was off St Govan’s Head (Pembrokeshire) on 27th.
ROSY STARLINGS were at Rhos on Sea (Caernarfonshire) on 3rd, Moelfre (Anglesey) on 5th-11th and Llandyssil (Montgomeryshire) on 30th-31st, in the next door garden of Iolo Williams’ neighbour, whilst he was on the Isle of Mull!
