Whilst mega rarities turned up just outside Wales it looks like we will have to wait for our own. A Spoonbill was NWR (Gwent) on 8-14^th and a GLOSSY IBIS on 6-31^st. A CATTLE EGRET was at the NWC (Carmarthen) on 22^nd, two were at Newport (Pembrokeshire) on 28^th. Great Egrets were seen at several locations and there were several reports of Quail from across Wales.

A Velvet Scoter was a good July record off Rhos on Sea (Caernarfonshire) on 7^th and several thousand Common Scoter arrived back offshore over 7-8^th during calm conditions. An early Great Northern Diver was off Mumbles Head (Gower) on 7^th. Two Black-necked Grebes were on Lisvane Reservoir (Glamorgan) on 3^rd.

Two CORY’S SHEARWATERS were off Strumble on 28^th and a Balearic Shearwater was off Point Lynas (Anglesey) on 6^th. A Roseate Tern was at Cemlyn on 6^th-16^th and two on there over 25-28^th. A Little Gull was at Llandegfedd Reservoir (Gwent) on 7^th. 27 Storm Petrels were trapped and ringed on Bardsey on 21^st and 4 were ringed at Lynas (Anglesey) on 31^st.

Wood Sandpipers were at Llanillid Open Cast Working (Glamorgan) on 16^th, Gann Estuary on 28^th and Tregaron Bog Ceredigion on 29^th and RSPB Conwy on 31^st.

ROSY STARLINGS were at Trefeithna (Powys) on 1^st, Berea (Pembrokeshire) on 4^th, Bury Port (Carmarthen) on, Cymystradlyn (Caernarfon) over 19-21^st, Cemaes (Anglesey) on 28^th. A BEE-EATER was heard over Dolgarrog (Caernarfonshire) flying south on 12^th.

A RED BACKED SHRIKE was at St Ann’s Head (Pembrokeshire) on 11^th and a MELODIOUS WARBLER was on Bardsey on 30^th.
