Bird-recording in Wales is based largely on the Watsonian vice-county system. Gwent VC35 covers the eastern part of Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Newport and Monmouthshire unitary authorities. A small area of Brecknockshire north of Ebbw Vale is included within the Gwent bird recording area.
