We’ve revamped WOS grants and student research awards and we want applications!

Two of WOS’s key objectives are to support studies to further the knowledge of birds in Wales and to contribute to the conservation of the birds of Wales. We’ve been concerned that we haven’t been receiving many applications for the grants we offer to members to support local and regional research studies and we want to do more to encourage and support community-based involvement into the  birds of Wales and their conservation.

We’ve therefore reviewed our whole grants and awards structure and are now launching a revised offering, which we hope will encourage more members and groups to apply. The headlines are:

  • Project Grants replace the existing Small Grants;
  • There’s a new category of Community Grants;
  • Young Conservationist Bursaries have been re-designed;
  • Student Research Awards have been extended to include a separate undergraduate award;
  • For Project Grants, Community Grants and Young Conservationist Bursaries, there will be two rounds of applications each year – by 30th June and 31st December. You can apply at any time, but the two dates are when everything will be considered;
  • There are larger pots of financial support in all categories.

These are member benefits. Go to https://birdsin.wales/grants-awards/ and find out more.
