Three small grants awarded for 2021 research

We are very pleased to award three small grants towards 2021 research – we received high quality applications and look forward to the results.

The three successful applicants and the projects supported are given below.

  1. Scarce woodland birds, especially Hawfinch. The effectiveness of remote audio units (AudioMoths) to detect scarce woodland birds. This technology will be used to complement observer-based surveys and increase the coverage of these surveys. (Richard Facey and Dr Rob Thomas – Cardiff University).
  2. A detailed study of the breeding ecology of the Tree Pipit in Blaengarw, East Glamorgan to identify some of the optimal habitat requirements for this declining Trans-Saharan migrant passerine. (Aurora Gonzala Tarodo and Shanice Arkless)
  3. Thermal imaging technology to support nest recording and ringing in East Glamorgan. (Fledgemore Nest Recording Group – Wayne Morris)
