Steve has had an interest in birds since he was a small child. His interests progressed from birding a local patch, to exploring the UK and chasing scarce and rarer birds when he learned to drive as a teenager. His birding has now taken him to all continents except Antarctica. He was the County Bird recorder for Anglesey from 1999-2014 then again from 2020 to date and he also did a previous stint on the WBRC from 2008 – 2014.

Originally from St. Helens, Steve studied Dentistry in Liverpool in 1991-96, and after qualifying he moved to Anglesey in August 1996, where he has remained ever since, living mainly in Cemaes bay, which is handy for birding at Cemlyn.

He’s been involved in Bangor Birdgroup for over 20 years now organising talks, to bring ornithologists and birders from all over the World to talk to the University Bird Group which has been going for over 75 years now. He also has a keen interest in bird photography and general wildlife, gradually widening his interests, including butterflies, moths, rock pooling and botany. He also keeps an eye on aviculture, to see what potential scarcities and vagrants may be living behind closed doors.
