Gwenan’s fascination with birds began at a young age and as an adult it has continued to shape her interests and her travel destinations. In 2014, retirement from her position as a lecturer at Bangor University provided her with the freedom and time to dedicate herself more to her lifelong interest in birds. Volunteering with the Glaslyn Osprey project was a significant step in her continued commitment to bird conservation and she became a member of the Board of Trustees for the Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife (BGGW) charity. Over the past decade, she has served in several key leadership roles, including Vice-Chair and Chair, Since 2020 as Treasurer she is responsible for the charity’s financial strategic management, and also manages the Osprey Protection site, enjoying a hands-on involvement in safeguarding the birds and their habitat. In collaboration with Tim Mackrill of Osprey Leadership Foundation, Gwenan coordinates the annual programme for visiting research assistants from the Kartong Bird Observatory in the Gambia to the Glaslyn Osprey project. Gwenan lives in Morfa Nefyn and is a fluent Welsh speaker. She was elected as WOS Treasurer at the 2025 AGM.
