Malcolm was elected as a Trustee at the 2025 AGM. He was formerly Chief Scientist and Deputy CEO of CCW, leading the team that designed the first agri-environment scheme for Wales, oversaw the implementation of the EU Habitats and Species Directive, and led the assessment of the impact of the Sea Empress oil spill and the monitoring of habitat and species recovery. After he retired from CCW in 2004, he was appointed to the Board of The Environment Agency for six years, representing Welsh interests on the Board and from 2016 to 2023 was a Member of The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Wales Committee, taking a lead role in advising on major cash awards to a wide range of natural heritage projects. He has a particular interest in, and knowledge of, the impact of farming on wildlife, birds especially.
