The Welsh Government is working with the National Heritage Lottery Fund to fund the Nature Networks 2 funding stream. The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust as lead partner, in collaboration with the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB, Curlew Country and the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority have been invited to submit a full application to the Welsh Government for a major Curlew support project.
GCWT and its partners are currently in the process of developing the full bid of up to £1m to fund works for the benefit of Curlew across several ICAs. The project is still in development but the intention at the moment is to employ the following:
- Project Manager
- Three Curlew as People ICA Officers. These will be centred on ICAs 5, 9 and 12, but also working across a wider area as required
- Curlew and Communities Officer to work with the Partner Organisations throughout Wales. This role aims to increase Curlew awareness and assist in the wider work of halting population decline.
The title of the project is Wales Curlew Connections, Cysylltu Gylfinir Cymru. WOS has submitted a letter of full endorsement and support to GCWT and will do all it can to support the project.
