Could you bring your expertise to the development of policy for WOS?

At the 2020 AGM in November, five members of the WOS Council will retire and at least three of these – Mick Green (Chair), Ian Spence (Secretary) and Keith Noble (Conference Organiser) will not be seeking re-election. We shall be losing a combined total of almost 30 years of experience and, more importantly, following last year’s retirement of Julian Hughes and Richard Facey, WOS Council will be losing a significant reservoir of knowledge of current and planned conservation policies and contacts with key individuals in policy-making organisations.

We have lots of great birders who could serve with distinction on Council, but at the moment we really would like applications from birders with organisational and planning skills, good contacts with policy organisations and the Welsh government.

We would love to hear from you if you think you could make such a contribution – particularly important at a time when conservation is taking a poor second place to issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Brexit negotiations. Please get in touch with Mick Green (our current, but retiring Chair) at chair@birdsin.wales if you might be interested.
