Glamorgan Bird Club : Outdoor Meeting – Cardiff Bay & Cosmeston.
Jan 22 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Wednesday 22nd January – Cardiff Bay & Cosmeston (F) 2. Gulls are likely to be the main focus of this trip, although Black Redstart has been seen round the Bay in past winters.

Field Meetings (F) – Please contact John Wilson (info@glamorganbirds.org.uk) before the due date. Bring packed lunch and suitable clothing/footware. Participants may be expected to car share. The meeting place in Cardiff for many trips is St Margaret’s Road in Whitchurch, Cardiff – We meet at the A4054 end.

Please note though, that due to the difficulty of getting to St Margaret’s Rd mid week mornings, esp for the leader, mid week trips will normally be meet at the location.

After the business of the meeting and refreshments provided by members, a photo show by four members – 4 x 15minutes.

All indoor meetings are held on Saturdays at Goytre Village Hall, Penperlleni (SO 323 046) and start at 7:30pm. An entrance fee of £2.00 includes tea and biscuits. Open to non-members. Goytre Sports & Social Club, Heol Drenewydd, Penperlleni, Pontypool NP4 0AR, UK.

Sunday 2nd February – Penclaccwydd WWT (F) 1. There have been surprises on recent trips, including Spoonbill and Otter. There is an entrance fee for non-WWT members.

Glamorgan Bird Club : Indoor Meeting – Birding in E. Europe, a talk given by Paul Bowden.

Tuesday 4th February – Birding in E. Europe – Paul Bowden (I). Paul will tell us about recent visits to Belarus and Bulgaria.

Indoor Meetings (I) – These are generally held on the first Tuesday of the month during the winter months. Start 7.45pm in the Kenfig National Nature Reserve’s Visitor Centre, Kenfig. Contact Paul Denning (01443 202607) for details.

Scarce & Rare Birds Archive

November 2019

Generally a fairly quiet month, compared with the mega-rarities recorded in other parts of the UK with the highlight being a warbler at Rhyl Brickworks from 11th to 13th, initially identified as a Hume’s Leaf Warbler on its call, but later ‘downgraded’ to a Yellow-Browed Warbler. For some the jury is still out!
